At the Toronto Comic Arts Festival this weekend I saw a live interview with Paul Pope and Dash Shaw. The event was overall totally inspirational. Again I couldn't hold myself back from seeing Paul Pope this year. He's a beautiful man who is a bright star in the comics world. Dash Shaw was very refreshing and had a funny way of looking at things -- an original thinker for sure. I picked up Shaw's work called Body World. Meanwhile I await Pope's Battling Boy.

These paintings are based on photographs I took in Australia in 1996. I still remember being there and the beauty of the Australian Outback. That experience is a rich one to pull from and now that I don't travel so frequently I cherish my memories.

I went on a road trip with my friend Linda. We saw this amazing mural in Detroit -- close to home but a world away! This mural reflects a time in the past that is gone and over. The scale of the thing was amazing. I just love the people in the background watching the workers at the car factory. Detroit now is a shadow of what it once was it seems to me. How times change!

I Love Cats

This cat is from a temple in Bangkok, Thailand. My own cat is of course the best cat in the world but there are plenty of other cats that come close because cats are just so splendid.

In the 80s I was a trendy teenager looking for my own style. This magazine was my style bible. Today's version doesn't seem nearly as interesting. Being a teenager is exciting. Sure you're filled with insecurities and anxiety about not being cool enough but the world is just open to you with possibilities. In my thirties (where I am now) I've closed down a bit. I've been trying to get my life together with my husband. We have been dreaming about a baby. But to get there there's lots to plan and prepare. Am I doing things backwards? Should we already have the baby by now and think about providing for a family once we actually have someone to provide for?

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival was great. I got to meet the fabulous Paul Pope. His art is one of a kind. I also met a charming French BD artist, Antoine Dodé who signed a copy of his comic book AVRIL for me with an original drawing.

Salut. J'ai envie de m'exprimer en français et c'est toujours un peu difficile pour moi... mais c'est la seule façon que je peux apprendre. Il faut plonger dedans. J'adore la langue française et ça me fait vraiment plaisir de parler une deuxième langue.
